Salleri

Salleri is situated at distance of 270 km from Kathmandu. It is known as the capital of Solukhumbu, the district of Everest region.

There are many facilities availablein the city like electricity, telephone, post office, schools, hospital, transportation and good restaurants and lodges for tourism. Salleri is accessible by bus from Kathmandu (11 hours around) and also by air with the airport of Phaplu (35 minutes) situated in the northern part of the municipality. The airport has been reflected in 2015.

Salleri is considered as a city with a look of village. For citizens it is more a big village than a real city.

Due to this airport and road access, Salleri is in perpetual development as distributions point with a lot of commerce for villages of Solukhumbu. It is also a start point of various trekking with a direct access to Everest Base Camp in the North of Solukhumbu. There also shorter trek accessible from Salleri like Pikey Peak and “Numbur” mountain. For a day trek, “Ratnange hill” is nearest beautiful place for visit from Salleri.

There is also a Tibetan monastery of Chewang Gumba available for tourism visit. A good diversity of product are available there, like cultural dresses, local fruits, local drink. There is also facilities to find local alcohol and test the famous “Tongba” and “Raksi”.

Salleri is situated in the mid-hills so it is good place for agriculture. Lots of farmer are living there in Salleri. Cow farm, Pig farm, Goat farm and Chicken farm are perfect for this area. Here is local market also available, it is really nice to spend time and discover coloured local vegetables.

The biggest hospital of Solukhumbu district in also here in Phaplu. It is considered as the district hospital, most of villager from Solukhumbu are reaching this hospital for consultation.

There are two community radio stations. One is Dudhkoshi 98.6 MHz and Solu FM-10.2 MHz

Different caste of people are living there. Rai caste is the largest ethnic group of Solukhumbu, Sherpa caste is second largest ethnic group of district and Chhetri is third largest caste of there. Tamang, Newar, Magar are also present there. Like all people in mountain, villager from Salleri use to be fair, honest, helpful and friendly.

Salleri is of course much more clean and peaceful than Kathmandu city even if the city start to suffer from pollution especially nearby the road.
